Smile! It really isn’t that hard. Tilt the corners of your mouth upward, and there ya go. A smile. You’re smiling. Which is an absolutely vital skill in My Beautiful Paper Smile, seeing how the mad king wants every child to be perfect – in other words, a giant, happy smile. Yeah… no. You’re definitely better off figuring out how to escape from the Joyous facility instead, however hazardous the journey.
So, let’s see. Simply put, based on the trailer below and screenshots from its Steam page, I’d describe My Beautiful Paper Smile as creepy, unsettling, and most certainly the stuff of nightmares, although, at the same time, it’s also quite stylish, beautiful, and likely a ton of fun – for those who, unlike me, have a genuine dislike for horror games. That doesn’t mean I won’t write about them, as you can tell from this article, but actually playing one? Hard pass.
Anyway, enough of that. What’s the deal here, the setup, the premise, the what’s-what, and so on? Well, as far as I can tell, at its core, it’s a stealth horror title with a perspective angled in a rather unique way. This is likely done to help build (and maintain) a high level of tension as you run about this messed up place, looking for a way out, all while trying to stay one step ahead of the Authorities. ‘Education’ facility my you-know-what. Ha! Oh right, maybe you could try and figure out just what’s going on here during your escape attempt? Just saying. No reason as to why they should be allowed to get away with… this, and if you don’t put an end to it, who will? No one, that’s who!
My Beautiful Paper Smile is available on Steam, carrying a $14.99 price tag.
