In 2019, everyone’s making games that crank the resolution way up – some even as high as 7680×4320 (8K) – but what say we dial it back a bit? Back to a simpler time. One of… say… 64×64? Crazy? Maybe I am, but such is the ‘cage’ within which you’ll be working, should you choose to partake in this year’s soon-to-be-over LOWREZJAM. Groovy stuff.
If you need another reason, well… pixel art is a lovely thing, even if some may prefer slightly higher resolutions for said eye candy. Not for this one, however. Here it’s either 64×64 or nothing. I mean, you can upscale the display to fit a larger window, so long as the core resolution remains unchanged. That’s really the only restriction. Nothing about audio, engine, theme, 2D, 3D, 4D or even 5D (is that a thing yet?).
What? Oh sure, I lifted the above paragraph straight out of my coverage of 2017’s LOWREZJAM. I’m allowed. My stuff. Mine! Ahem. Anyway, seeing how I am a bit late in covering this year’s outing, for which I do apologize, let’s jump straight to the facts so you can get started ASAP: the jam will end on August 17th, after which voting will commence on the 18th, ending on the 24th. Themes? Optional, and a few have been listed on the official itch.io page for inspiration/extra challenge. Much like rules, do’s and don’t…s, and such.
Will LOWREZJAM 2019 be followed by LOWREZJAM 2020? I sure hope so, but only time will tell. For now… let’s focus on the final stretch of LOWREZJAM 2019! Best of luck, participants.
