Return to the Lands of Dream: ‘Ithaka of the Clouds’ Announced

The previous game from Jonas Kyratzes, The Sea Will Claim Everything (TSWCE), was a very impressive adventure with great looking visuals, clever puzzles and a story that was odd and intriguing at the same time. It took place in the Lands of Dream and this will also be the setting for his next project, Ithaka of the Clouds.

Ithaka of the Clouds (IotC) is inspired by the works of Kavafis, a Greek poet and will seemingly focus on the story of two trolls; how’s that for a twist? TSWCE was a pretty lengthy game and according to Jonas Kyratzes, somehow IotC will be even bigger! Wow. That’s a lot of work for Verena Kyratzes, who’ll be crafting the hand-drawn graphics and of course Chris Christodoulou, the soundtrack composer; but if it’s even half as good as TSWCE, it will be more than worth the effort. Unlike most adventure games, IotC will focus more on exploring the lands and meeting people, instead of complex brain-teasers (though I’m sure there’ll still be a few of those).

An Indiegogo campaign is set to launch soon, to help fund its development and I’ll be sure to report on that immediately (or not long after). But while you wait for Ithaka of the Clouds, might I recommend his other game, The Sea Will Claim Everything? Full game’s $10 and a demo is available.

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
