Hope you’re ready to have your reflexes put to the test because Hell is Other Demons looks like an absolutely brutal, fast-paced romp through, well, Hell. Looks like a genuine blast too, for those able to keep up with its over-the-top explosive carnage. Oh, and you play the part of a demon… killing other demons.
Now, I’m not entirely certain as to what motivates this demon fella, but at the same time, I don’t really care. Games like this don’t exactly need an extensive backstory – or a story period – to be enjoyable. It’s all about kicking you-know-what and taking souls. According to its creator, players also get to “dominate wonderfully over-the-top bosses”, which honestly sounds rather enticing. I do so enjoy dominating demons, and not only in video games either.
Anyway, with an aesthetic similar to that of Downwell, a pumping soundtrack, and screen-filling explosions, something tells me Hell is Other Demons is going to be a joy to play. Even if the game is very likely going to destroy both me and my gamepad when I throw it across the room upon rage quitting. But… there are a lot of people who live and breathe challenging platformers, so with a little luck, it’ll be successful, high difficulty and all.
Speaking of which: those looking to get competitive need look no further than the game’s Arcade Mode, where “unlimited, procedurally generated action and endless replayability” all reside, complete with leaderboards. Because what’s the point in doing demonic score-chasing without leaderboards?
