Three years ago, players went on a journey across a dried-out seabed littered with the remains of a decaying civilization, in FAR: Lone Sails. Thanks to its mix of beautiful art and relaxing gameplay, it proved successful enough to warrant a sequel. A sequel which is almost upon us, FAR: Changing Tides preparing to take players across and below stormy waters in a world ravaged by floods.
All is not lost, however, as perhaps pieces amongst the ruins of this one great society can be reused… to rebuild? If not that, then at least something close, something that’ll lay the foundation for a brighter future. Exploration is definitely atop this menu, as a lot of time will be spent searching for ancient relics, salvage, and of course, fuel. How else do you expect that seafaring vessel going to get ya anywhere, after all? It’s a big, wet world, and there ain’t no way you’re getting far on foot. Not anymore.
At the centre of this evocative and poetic journey is the unforgettable tale of a boy and his ship, searching the world for answers.
You’ll also do well to ensure said vessel is well maintained, unlocking parts to further tilt the odds in your favor, because both above and below the surface, danger looms on the horizon. There’s a lot to see and do, many places to go, but above all else, never forget to treat your vessel like your best friend; because in a way, it is. Many challenges may lie ahead, but overcome them, and you’ll likely resurface enriched in more than just material goods. Probably won’t be easy, come to think of it, although is anything worth doing ever that?
FAR: Changing Tides is scheduled to sail across PC (Steam), Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, come late 2021.
