Dodgeball is a popular sport. Even so, I’d wager few have played it in their dreams. On top of that, how about experiencing a game of trick shots and agile manoeuvring in which each shot shifts the conversation? Welcome to Desta: The Memories Between.
It’s far from all fun and games, however, as without spirited trick shots and sensational hits in these sporty turn-based battles, Desta’s role in these dreamscapes will remain forever a mystery. She’s not all by her lonesome though, and that’s definitely a good thing as having even one extra person on your team is almost guaranteed to make a difference. That and who knows, they just might be able to shed some light on what is happening and why our protagonist is… well, here.
As Desta and their friends fall deeper into the dream, uncover and level up brand new abilities that will completely flip encounters on their head
Oh, in case you somehow missed that part: the balls that get tossed around in Desta: The Memories Between are of the powerful, glowing variety. The kind that may or may not have a few magic properties attached. According to ustwo, the developer, they can after all “change the course of conversation”; don’t recall that ever being the case in the real world, unless ticking someone off by accidentally bonking their noggin with the ball counts.
So, yeah, I smell magic. I suppose the rules could also simply differ greatly within this dreamlike realm, but whatever the case, it’s time for Desta to embark on a journey quite unlike anything they’ve ever experienced before or will again, one trickshot at a time.
Desta: The Memories Between (Dream Team Edition) is available on Steam ($16.99) and Switch ($19.99).
