‘Deliver Us From Evil (DUFE) – Masquerade’ Turns a Haunted House Into Something Sinister

‘Deliver Us From Evil (DUFE) – Masquerade’ Turns a Haunted House Into Something Sinister

Haunted houses? Oh yeah, they’re a thing. Totally a thing. Well, in Deliver Us From Evil (DUFE) – Masquerade, anyway. A world in which we also find Keldran and Ace, our two centuries-long friends-with-benefits protagonists, who believe they’re in for a fun time at one of these so-called haunted houses. Which they are… at first.

“Insecurities can bring out the worst in anyone”, or so they (the developer) say, right there on the game’s page. Whether that’ll ring true for the poor souls who are forced to take part in this partially voiced Spooktober 2021 submission remains to be seen. Probably will though, for where’s the fun if everything is just peachy, really? I’m sure some of that can be had, even in a sinister haunted house.

Provided Keldran and Ace are able to “navigate their unspoken feelings and conquer their fears”, that is. Which is a tall order, even for a duo of supernatural bed partners such as these. Oh, did I mention how there’s also a ravenous spirit able to somehow “wear their faces” in this here haunted house? Or how there’s a haunted house? Right. Maybe once or twice.

So, to summarize: haunted house trickery results in two supernatural beings ending up forced to, quite literally, face their worst fears and try to make it out in one piece. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Deliver Us From Evil (DUFE) – Masquerade is available on Steam and itch.io, for $4.99.

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
