Sure, Valentine’s Day may have come and gone in our world, but that’s not the case in Deep Sea Valentine, where Inia – our flirtatious pink dolphin protagonist – is desperately trying to get a last-minute date. Needless to say, she’s gonna need some help, and since her best friend is tired of Inia settling for random strangers, it’s time… for you to help her find someone worthwhile. Wait, does that mean you’re her best friend? Eh, just go with it. For scien– love.
Alright, based on the trailer, you’re actually playing as Inia, not her bestie. That’s one less thing to be confused about, which is probably a good thing as you’ll have your hands full trying your darndest flirting with the six(!) romanceable girls in this visual novel. Oh, and since actions do generally speak louder than words, who you end up dating is not defined by conversational choices so much as, well, actions. Say what you want, but carefully consider what you do, or you could end up with a dateless Inia. On Valentine’s Day. Which would make for a super sad little dolphin. Surely you’ll do your very best to avoid that, right? RIGHT? Good. Okay. Moving on then.
Even though six potential candidates might not sound like a whole lot, keeping track of which combinations will send you down a specific route can still be tricky to figure out. I think. Maybe not. Either way, Kigyo, creator of Deep Sea Valentine, has put up a guide for those looking to experience everything on offer. And really, why wouldn’t you be tempted to do that? Are you so certain that the girl Inia ends up with on your first playthrough is really… the one? Yeah, that’s what I thought (in spite of having not actually played the game yet, but eh, minor detail). I mean, she could very well be, but again: how can you be absolutely certain?
Deep Sea Valentine is available on Steam and itch.io, carrying a $4.99 price tag.
