There are many things cats should never do, and I think what goes on in Cats Fly Helicopters is quite high up on that list. In the real world anyway. When it comes to video games, anything goes, thankfully. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have this upcoming feline-centric simulated cat city… thing. Groovy!
Oh boy. Today, cats fly helicopters. Tomorrow, they… take over the world? If only. Whatever the case, the whole ‘simulated city’ bit is an undeniably good thing, based on the amount of physics-based destruction depicted in the trailer below. That’s also where the fun comes from, I’d say, even if players are supposed to actually be helping the locals. Likely with tasks they’re all too darn lazy to do themselves. But again, simulated city, so there’s no way anyone’s actually gonna get hurt – right?
Right. Well, what started as a prototype called Taxi Copter during 2017’s Prototype Showdown has, without a doubt, evolved. Quite a bit. Into something potentially amazing, even for those who aren’t particularly fond of cats: “an open world, physics playground with lots of characters, physics, and activities”. Ah, and we mustn’t forget about the helicopters. Those are important too. Perhaps even more so than the cats (not likely).
In fact, the one thing that kind of lowers my enthusiasm for Cats Fly Helicopters is that it will be in Early Access. That said, Race the Sun was in beta (although not on Steam) for a while prior to launch, so it’s not like Flippfly doesn’t have experience with this kind of thing. Fingers crossed we’ll get to experience some genuinely groovy feline shenanigans sooner rather than later.
