Spring. Oh, how I wish it was here already. Sure, I have gone on record in the past, stating how much I enjoyed (relatively) cold weather… but that was after a much too-long summer, so can you really blame me? Surely spring is right around the corner though, and if not, we can still pretend with Blossom VN Jam 2023.
So, spring. You’ve likely guessed this already, but it’s the theme of Blossom VN Jam 2023, and as for exactly what it means – well, that’s entirely up to interpretation. I’ve taken the liberty of pasting the concepts/ideas from the jam page below:
- Cottagecore Aesthetics
- Healing, Rebirth, and Personal Growth
- Nature (i.e. Butterflies, Flowers, Rabbits)
- Budding Romance
- Farming
- Easter/Spring Equinox
- Anything that makes you think of spring!
All that said, while there are rules – the biggest of which is, in my opinion, how “hateful content, bigotry, extreme violence, and gore are not allowed” – judging? Prizes? Rankings? None of that. NSFW submissions are fine, as long as they 1) are labeled properly and 2) don’t break itch.io’s ToS. Aside from that… let’s see… ah, content warnings – add them! Don’t want to make a visual novel? I mean, “story-focused games” are accepted too, so while ‘VN’ is in the title, you don’t have to make one.
