October. We’re now less than a month away from November, which means it’s time to get excited about this year’s AdventureX. Or it would be, if not for the current state of affairs across the globe, resulting in huge gatherings being less than ideal, mildly put. Something AdventureX-ish will still be happening during that same month, however, and that something is… AdvXJam!
Billed as ‘The Narrative Game Jam’, AdvXJam kicks off on November 14th and ends on the 28th, giving eager participants two whole weeks to, well, participate. Compared to the two days that make up AdventureX, this might seem like a lot, but you also can’t compare a game jam to an expo in a way that makes sense. You just can’t. Trust me on that. I’ve tried.
Right. So, the jam will not be a competition, there will be no judging, voting, ranking, and as such, no winning or losing. My favourite kind, even if I don’t actually plan on participating. Which brings me to… theme! Oh right, that one won’t be revealed until the 14th. Which makes perfect sense, now that I think about it. Alright then.
Next up, rules? None, really, as “we’re very open-minded about what constitutes a narrative game” sits right there on the jam page alongside an invitation to use any genre, style, and game engine, go at it solo or as a team, and perhaps most importantly: experience level with game making? Irrelevant. Remember, this is not some silly extreme competition where you either do your best or get mocked. It’s a relaxing, casual game jam with a focus on narrative gaming experiences. Nice and easy.
