What are you doing right now? Nothing? Ah, good. Wait. No. Why aren’t you preparing for Adventure Jam 2023? It’s… like, less than a month away!
So, the important stuff first: it’ll take place between May 27th and June 10th, giving participants the usual two weeks to get into an adventure-creating groove, hopefully creating some awesome new adventures for everyone to adventure. Adventure. Did I mention the adventure part? Right. Okay. Rules! I’m not going to paste the lot here, but I would strongly recommend reading them. Yes, even if you’re an Adventure Jam veteran who knows the rules by heart because this year saw not only changes but additions too.
We want to encourage creativity and trying new things, so with that in mind, we want you to make whatever an adventure game means to you.
For those wondering about the theme(s), well, there won’t be any. The post-jam voting, which spans multiple categories, is, I believe, its replacement. Which is, quite frankly, a nice change of pace. It’ll be interesting to see how participants approach game-making, fully aware that their creation will be judged in categories like ‘Emotional Engagement’ and ‘Atmosphere’, instead of the traditional ‘is game x better or worse than game y?’. Oh, speaking of: voting will continue for exactly one month after the jam has concluded. So from June 10th all the way to July 10th. If my calendar didn’t break again.
