Go on ‘A Short Hike’ to Explore a Gorgeously Pixellated Island, Climb Towards the Summit

Welcome to Hawk Peak Provincial Park. What do you feel like doing today? Oh wait, it doesn’t matter, because in A Short Hike, there’s no pressure, no grand evil to defeat, no world desperately in need of saving. There’s just you and the island. An island ripe for exploration. So much to do, so much to see, and you’ve got all the time in the world! Or do you?

Well, yes. You do. Go fishing, swimming, soar through the skies – maybe even help one or two of the people you meet along the way, in this beautifully pixellated sunny paradise. Also, I do believe you’re a bird. Maybe a penguin. Hard to tell. Doesn’t really matter though.

Explore the island any way you like. Choose your own path to follow and see where it leads you. You never know what you might stumble into!

What does, however, is the abundance of treasures that are just lying there, hidden just-out-of-sight, waiting to be discovered and used… “to reach new heights”. Why explore if there is no potential reward involved, after all? And what’s the fun if you can simply go everywhere from the get-go, do it all immediately? Nah, that wouldn’t be as much fun, and would definitely also make for… A Short Hike.

A Short Hike is available on itch.io and Steam, carrying a $7.99 price tag. Soundtrack? $5 on Bandcamp.

Whenever a big AAA title claims it'll "innovate with groundbreaking features", it usually turns out to be a snore-fest; one which simply mimics other games (poorly). This is where my interest indie game interest comes from: pick a random title from a pile of these, and chances are you’ll end up with something genuinely unique - often for well less than $60 too.
