As we are now more than halfway through 2021, I doubt many are going to be surprised so much as pleased by the reveal of another iteration of 7DFPS; or rather, when it’s going to take place. Oh, and do keep in mind that while ‘FPS’ is part of this game jam’s name, participants are not required to create a First Person Shooter.
I mean, sure, violence in video games can be fun, but how about cutting back on it, and emphasizing other aspects instead? This particular viewpoint does after all much too often end up as part of an experience involving firearms of some sort, starring a borderline inhuman protagonist able to shrug off all but the largest of wounds… while just about neglecting plot, characters, and world-building. There are examples of gun-driven first-person experiences with a really good story, but they are few and far between.
Challenge yourself, and first person games, by creating a game that takes us to new places in new ways.
All that said, there appear to be absolutely no rules for this particular game jam, and no theme restrictions. So whatever you want to make, whatever engine you want to use, it’s all good. Just, you know, stick to the jam dates: between December 3rd and 14th, 2021. Not entirely certain as to what this ‘DETAILS PENDING’ tweet means, but if anything important crops up I’ll update this article.
May the power of first-person game-making be with you, always.
