Alright so my prediction was off by a few months, but who cares? It’s finally time for the 2019 XYZZY Awards, celebrating all things interactive fiction! Yes, all things. Everything from ‘best story’ to ‘best NPC’, and even ‘best use of innovation’. Much awesomeness, and across a staggering 329 pieces/stories, no less!
Little has changed in terms of categories, but again, who cares, really? Each of the thirteen makes perfect sense for the media, and while some are undeniably more prestigious than the rest, eh, I for one would be thrilled to even be nominated in just one. Because that means someone thinks the piece of interactive fiction I created was ‘best’ something. Anything. Don’t underestimate the importance of something like this, as recognition – especially in a long-running awards series such as this – is incredibly important, and not just to the content creators either.
Now, seeing how 329 is a lot to get through, even for those who claim not to have need of this weird thing called sleep, well, play as many as you can muster, cast your votes, and… that’ll do. But before you can get to any of that fun stuff, there are a few things to take care of: to kick things off, you’ll need to either create an account (or, you know, login if you already have one), after which… I did mention the voting, right?
Also, do keep in mind that this first round of voting will end on… let’s see… ah, September 13th. Simple enough, right? So best of luck to all participants – newcomers and veterans alike!
