It’s time to once again revisit the past, travelling back to 1873’s United States. A time of gunslinging desperadoes, stagecoaches, bar brawls, and numerous jailbreaks. A glorious time to be alive, unless you happen to be the protagonist of 12 is Better Than 6, of course. See, this poor fella – a recently escaped slave – is constantly fighting to stay alive, as he travels from Mexico to Texas.
Now, as I mentioned, the West was about more than giving your enemies lead poisoning, sure, but that’s still what this particular tale focuses on, for the most part. It’s set in an incredibly stylish world though, with its fancy hand-drawn visuals and all, blood and bullets flying in equal amounts. Definitely doesn’t hurt its chances in the rather crowded genre (top-down/twin-stick shooters), that’s for sure. The same goes for the Hotline Miami-esque camera, panning up, down, left and right, in an attempt to follow wherever that lovely hand-held bullet-spraying machine of yours is aimed.
It is 1873. An escaped slave is slowly walking through the desert, making his way from Mexico to Texas. He keeps a revolver close and is wearing the sombrero stolen from a dead man.
You won’t be able to go on a rampage like in that title, however, as 12 is Better Than 6 requires you to cock revolvers before being able to shoot. Every time. Oh, and your enemies don’t exactly wait around for you to get all suited up for combat either, as they’ll take a shot the second you’re in their sights, rarely missing. Because of this, a stealthy approach might make more sense in certain situations. Maybe.
If all else fails, there’s always the path of upgrades to increase your odds, as fights take you across San Antonio and Austin, among other places. Or you could opt for a different weapon. Revolvers aren’t the only authentic firearm present here after all, as there are even gatling guns. Those’ll really help you mow down the hordes. Just keep an eye out for them TNT rats. No really. TNT rats. And remember, 12 is Better Than 6!
12 is Better Than 6 on Steam will set you back a grand total of $9.99.
