Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya (aka. the wizard, knight, and thief) are back! Or rather, they will be this fall, when Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince arrives, and unlike its precursor, it will be in 2.5D. Their grand quest this time? Something simple, really: retrieve Selius, a prince who has been wreaking havoc on the world with his nightmares (wait, what?).
See, that’s the thing with magic – in the wrong hands, it can be absolutely disastrous, as proven by this here Nightmare Prince. All is not lost yet, however, for while the journey ahead may be more perilous than our protagonist trio should have liked, it is by no means an insurmountable challenge. Even less so with (up to) four players working together, fighting their way through “magical fairytale landscapes”, solving puzzles and bashing skeletons in glorious co-operative play. Well, except that… challenges will be “tailored to the number of players”.
With a revamped combat system that promises “fresh challenges and thrilling action”, who knows, maybe it will still be a case of ‘the more, the merrier’? Only one way to find out, and since Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince won’t be restricted to local co-op, the gathering of friend and foe alike to combine strengths (and weaknesses?) on a mission to stop Selius from destroying everything shouldn’t prove overly difficult. Yeah. We’ll see. If past experience is any indication, I suspect more time will be spent trolling rather than progressing, but hey – fun is fun, ya know?
