In less than a month, the masses will be flocking to PAX Prime 2013, and you know what that means: The PAX 10! Of all the great indie games out there – and believe me, there are a lot – a panel consisting of fifty industry experts have narrowed it down to a mere ten, which makes this year’s lineup. Good stuff.
While the majority of picks this time are PC games, a few iOS titles have also found their way into the mix. The fact that half of them have yet to be released doesn’t make the lineup any less interesting. Quite the opposite in fact, as that simply means there’s a bunch of interesting indie games to look forward to! These include the sequel to the popular Escape Goat (aptly named Escape Goat 2), Owlboy, Sokobond, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime and Avalanche 2: Super Avalanche. My favourite amongst those up-and-coming indies? Owlboy, no doubt. It’s been in development for a while now, and since there’s still no release date in sight, exactly when we’ll see it released is anyone’s guess. Still looks interesting though.
On the ‘already released’ list, we’ve got the zany iOS game Ridiculous Fishing, hectic multiplayer madness in Towerfall, a trip through a disturbing and twisted forest in BADLAND, the challenging rogue-“lite” Rogue Legacy and last but certainly not least, the complex stealth puzzler Gunpoint, where you get to mess with security guards, flick light switches, and… jump out a window on the fourth floor, with no risk of bodily harm.
- Avalanche 2: Super Avalanche (PC)
- BADLAND (iOS)
- Escape Goat 2 (PC)
- Gunpoint (PC)
- Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (PC/Mac)
- Owlboy (PC)
- Ridiculous Fishing (iOS)
- Rogue Legacy (PC)
- Sokobond (PC/Mac/Linux)
- Towerfall (PC/Ouya)
See? I told you this year’s The PAX 10 lineup was full of indie greatness. Ah, if only I was able to attend, but no. Instead, like so many others, I’ll have to sit idly by and wait for the five yet-to-be-released titles to pop up in their respective storefronts. So, ignoring availability, which of the ten is your favourite?
