A few years ago, players traversed icy regions, moving their caravan from outpost to outpost, town to town, managing the safety of everyone involved, while keeping an eye on both supplies and morale. It was a brutal journey, one full of harsh decisions and tough, tactical combat. In a few weeks, The Banner Saga 2 will be upon us, continuing the tale of… anyone with a beating heart.
Oh and when I say ‘continuing the tale’, I don’t just mean that the sequel will feature familiar faces. No, you actually get to import your The Banner Saga save, choices and potential survivors carrying over. Very groovy – unless you have regrets, of course. Which you don’t, right? RIGHT? Well, maybe you do, but that’s just the way it is; actions, consequences, and so on.
As the world continues to crumble around you, only one bastion of hope remains, but getting there will require strong leadership, hard sacrifices, influencing new heroes, and, as always, sound strategy in combat.
Yup. Combat, because managing the caravan, telling everyone what they want to hear so that varl and human can (hopefully) coexist peacefully, isn’t likely to get the blood of a true Viking boiling. For that, conflict is required, and what better place than the fields of battle? Fields on which the very blood of one’s foes shall be shed… repeatedly. Do consider every last action of your turn carefully, however, because, like its precursor, The Banner Saga 2 is pretty permanent with the whole death-of-a-character.
A neat and gritty premise for sure, and one we won’t have to wait long before experiencing either, as The Banner Saga 2 is scheduled for an April 19 release on Steam (and other retailers, hopefully).
