For most, weekends means two days off work with some much-needed R&R. But for game developers, it’s also a time during which they get to show off what they’ve been working on. I am of course referring to Screenshot Saturday, which involves tweeting screenshots with the #ScreenshotSaturday hashtag. Screenshots which I will be critiquing some of every single Tuesday, in Speculating Screenshots.
Different screenshots from different developers, all working on different games. Some are very much a WIP, while other are from titles rapidly approaching release. These tweets do all have one thing they in common though, which is that they feature actual screenshots (or at the very least, mockups), animated or stills. So without further ado…

Tuning… tuning… hmm. Bet ya he’s gonna add more of them tiny flying faces, eh? Or maybe more bullets? Both? If only!

Nadia Was Here (@JajabenGames)
Yay, minecarts! But why does that guy look like he’s sitting in a black pot of sorts? So confusing.

See this I don’t get. If you’ve got rare plants in stock and people are willing to buy them, why be grumpy about it? Money’s money and money makes the world go ’round – even for a lizard witch.

Damn straight. Don’t be afraid to fight dirty either! Use jetpacks, energy shields, the whole nine yards; drop the bloody ceiling on your opponent if you have to!

Am I the only one seeing a pinball-esque level there? Maybe it’s just the choice of colors and that flipper-ish thing near the bottom of the screen. Stylish though.

My Cup of Coffee: The Trouble with Earl Grey [I think?] (@steamgirlgame)
Ah, more stylish screenshots! Not that I base my interest in games on visual appeal, but ya gotta admit, this one looks nice so far.

Not gonna lie, I didn’t even notice the ‘overgrown ship’ at first, due to the massacre going on near the middle of the screen. That said, holy crap, what happened to the ship?!

About bloody time someone made a game like this – a good game, that is. For those unclear as to what I’m on about: watch Tron. Right now.

A wild ZX Spectrum game appears… in 2015! Seriously though, that does look like fun, and based on the top menu, seems there’ll be a classic power-up system too. Groovy.

What, too much visual indication of imminent death? No such thing! That said, is that… blood? Wow.

The Preposterous Awesomeness of Everything (@JoeMcRichardson)
That face! THAT FACE! Just kidding, although what’s with those verbs? “Disrespect”? “Befuddle”? I smell a very interesting point ‘n click adventure in the making.

So glad that parrot(?) behind the table ain’t the protagonist, because man, he looks shady! Nice hat though.

The Empty Inn (@Candlelight_S)
Oho! A horror game, and a pixellated one at that. What’s that key for though? Or rather, I’m assuming the icon above her head is to indicate she just picked one such up, anyway. Guess we’ll find out sooner or later.
— OCTAHEDRON (@OctahedronGame) May 2, 2015
Ouch. There’s no way to avoid dying there, that’s for sure. But hey, at least he (it?) looks to be going out with a bang. A big bang. A very colorful big bang.

Uh… I don’t even know where to begin. It is how I’ll be wrapping up this week’s Speculating Screenshots though!
