Speculating Screenshots (20th December 2014)

Speculating Screenshots

For most, weekends means two days off work with some much-needed R&R. But for game developers, it’s also a time during which they get to show off what they’ve been working on. I am of course referring to Screenshot Saturday, which involves tweeting screenshots with the #ScreenshotSaturday hashtag. Screenshots which I will be critiquing some of every single Tuesday, in Speculating Screenshots.

Different screenshots from different developers, all working on different games. Some are very much a WIP, while other are from titles rapidly approaching release. These tweets do all have one thing they in common though, which is that they feature actual screenshots (or at the very least, mockups), animated or stills. So without further ado…

Nothing like some CQB to get the blood pumping, ya know? Kinda wish the picture showed more though, instead of leaving us guessing. But… that’s the way it is with #ScreenshotSaturday – often, only enough to tease, is revealed!

A Quiver of Crows (@AQuiverOfCrows)
Nothing, that’s what. Also, nice Austin Powers reference, even if unintentional. That said, what an odd looking shark.

Bermuda Balloon Splash (@WormOent)
What the… I don’t even. A game about popping balloons, and it actually looks decent, instead of being yet another Bust-A-Move/Puzzle Bobble copy? Surely I must be dreaming.

Prisonscape (@Prisonscape)
Well, what happens in jail stays in jail, so go ahead and get that nosejob, unnamed convict #138.

Quite the nice looking SHMUP there, and surprisingly, it’s made with OpenFL as opposed to one of the more popular engines (Unity, GameMaker, etc.). Groovy.

KEL Reaper of Entropy (@themasquerader)
Last but not least, a shot from KEL Reaper of Entropy‘s Christmas update, because, well, you know what day tomorrow is (or the day after, for those overseas)!
