If Paws: A Shelter 2 Game is anything like its two precursors, there will be smiles, just as certain as there will be tears. Given how far between games which carry anything resembling emotional weight these days are, hopefully, Might and Delight will indeed be able to continue the trend of making players give a damn about the protagonist – an adorable baby lynx, in this one.
Although unlike Shelter and Shelter 2, in Paws: A Shelter 2 Game, this particular tale is not one experienced alone. That’s not to say we’re talking about a multiplayer title here, because it is still very much a single-player experience. No, what I’m referring to is the bear. What bear? Why, the one in the trailer below, of course! Your companion, comrade in arms, and so on.
Paws is a tale of two halves and sees you traverse the dark and dank surroundings of an enchanted land as you try to fend off dangers, whilst overcoming the daunting sprawling landscape you encounter as you try to make your way home.
That said, while undeniably helpful in certain scenarios, I have a feeling you’ll still be the one doing every last bit of tracking. It is your thing, being a lynx and all. But for the rough stuff, like fending off predators, the big fella will surely be genuinely useful. The wilderness is a hostile place after all, and you’re anything but near familiar soil. Familiar, welcoming, warm soil. Home, as it were. So get going!
Paws: A Shelter 2 Game is available from Steam / GOG.com, carrying a $14.99 price tag.
