In one corner, the Tech Elves of Arcadia – in the other, the hordes of the Unmade Empire. Who will win? Well, since the Tech Elves are the good guys in Gunmetal Arcadia, chances are they will. That is, provided the player can handle the challenge laid before them in this roguelite throwback to the likes of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. If not, guess the evil empire will win this war. Which would be bad. For everyone.
That said, with five playable characters to choose from, a wealth of items and upgrades to acquire, lovely CRT simulation to further the illusion that you’re playing something straight out of the 80s… the game pretty much does all it can to help you get the job done. Oh, and if you die, it’s back to the beginning, albeit with a beneficial memento of sorts. So all is not lost, should you fall in battle. Which is not entirely unlikely.
Unless you take your time, tread carefully, keep your blade sharp, your bombs plenty and your heart meter… well, you get the point, I’m sure. Gunmetal Arcadia may be a rather fast-paced platformer, but there’s still room for caution and a patient approach. That and, do help people you meet. Their requests may seem odd, but chances are it’ll pay off. Maybe. Or perhaps they’re spies, working for the Unmade Empire? Only one way to find out…
Gunmetal Arcadia is available from Humble, Steam and itch.io, carrying a $9.99 price tag. Soundtrack? $4 from Bandcamp.
