Oraz is a land of two halves. On one side, Humans, while the other houses Leshin (aka. Elves), and… well, they haven’t really been getting along too well. Wars have been waged, lives lost, and all that really gruesome stuff. But that was then, this is now, and as the story of Echoes of the Fey‘s first episode begins, we find ourselves in an era of peace. An unstable era, but one of peace nonetheless. Ah, peace.
I mean, really, who doesn’t like peace? Probably won’t last throughout the entirety of this visual novel though. Ya better believe that if there’s even a single choice to place Sofya Rykov – human, and series protagonist – on the warpath, I’ll go for it, if for no other reason than to see which of its endings that’ll bring about. War has to be good for something.
Each chapter of Echoes of the Fey will start with a client, a mystery, and an angle that will force Sofya to explore her own magical abilities as well as the evolving relationship between humans and Leshin.
Not that Sofya will be fighting this uphill battle alone, mind you, as her detective-for-hire-ish lifestyle is aided by, believe it or not, a Leshin, of all things. Exactly what the two get up to in the city of Vodotsk, and beyond, potentially, remains to be seen. Although its creator has spilt the beans, revealing that this first episode will focus on “a missing Leshin veteran and the youngest son of a wealthy Human house”, so if nothing else, it’s bound to be exciting, dangerous or both (as is often the case when royalty goes missing). Oh, and it’ll be choice-driven with multiple endings and plenty of side quests.
Due for release this May, The Fox’s Trail will be accompanied by a free short story/novella “detailing an early case involving a key side character”, hopefully prior to the release of the visual novel itself. But we’ll see. As Malcolm Pierce also notes in the announcement post, “things get delayed”. Which they do. All the time. Even so… fingers crossed for a chance to embark on the adventures of Sofya and her Leshin friend, this May.
