Let’s Get It Kickstarted: Ace of Space

A human being is flying a biplane in outer space. No really. Yeah okay, so maybe that's only really a thing in Ace of Space, and maybe a trip through a wormhole is part of this story. Maybe. Whatever the case, it's time for this pilot to start killing aliens instead of nazis, continuing the fight for freedom as it were. On an intergalactic scale. Because aliens are evil.

Speculating Screenshots (25th June 2016)

For most, weekends means two days off work with some much-needed R&R. But for game developers, it’s also a time during which they get to show off what they’ve been working on. I am of course referring to Screenshot Saturday, which involves tweeting screenshots with the #ScreenshotSaturday hashtag. Screenshots which I will be critiquing some of every single Tuesday, in Speculating Screenshots.

Subterrarium, In Which Soda Just Might Plant the Way Home

I don't know how or why the protagonist is deep underground in Subterrarium, but one thing's certain: the surface beckons! As such, it's time to dig. Dig like you've never dug (Dig Dug?) before. Dig with the power of… soda? Bought from vending machines, using money collected from dirt?! Surely this has to be part of said protagonist's crazy dream. Surely.

In The Banner Saga 2’s Survival Mode, There Is Only… War!

Trekking through snowcapped mountains, across vast deserts and so on, with that nifty little caravan of yours, managing supplies, doing your best to make the right choices can be fun. But there are times when you just want to fight, fight and fight some more, kicking ass and taking names - without all the in-between stuff. Likely the exact reason for Stoic, creator of The Banner Saga 2, having recently given the game its very own… Survival Mode!

Tell-a-Tale: The Made with Unity Developer Story Contest Is Well Underway

A lot can happen when you attempt to create something in Unity. A lot. So much, that the development process often spawns entire stories just waiting to be told. Stories which The Made with Unity Developer Story Contest is all about, so if you've got an interesting tale to tell, related to either a finished or WIP Made with Unity game… then this competition's for you.

Using inkle’s ink Language to Make IF Just Got Simpler With the Inky Editor

Twine, Inform 7, TADS, Quest, ADRIFT - not like there's a lack of IF authoring tools, and yet, something about ink makes it stand out. Maybe it's the syntax? Or perhaps the fact that it's powered amazing interactive experiences like 80 Days? Whatever the reason, however impressive as a language, its one downside was the lack of an editor. Fortunately, with the release of inky, that problem has pretty much been dealt with.

FAR: Become One With Your Vessel In This Vehicular Adventure

Adventures, while often wildly different in nature, all have one thing in common: it's either about the destination - or what may be found there - or about the journey (what happens during, and such). In FAR the focus seems more on the latter, as you traverse a desolate wasteland, maintaining your vehicle each step of the way, while weathering storms and pitch black nights alike.

Social Media Enables Hashtag Dungeon Fans to Create… Everexpanding Dungeons!

Evil being evil and all, it's hardly going to surprise anyone that it / they are up to no good, in Hashtag Dungeon. But in this case, you don't have to be the good guy. Let’s Get It Kickstarted (with demo): The Captain

In the 23rd century, mankind has long since expanded its territorial claim into the vast depths of space, and as such, life's pretty darn good for The Captain's protagonist, captain Welmu. Or at least it used to be, until a routine mission goes wrong, poor Welmu suddenly waking up in uncharted territory, far away from home. Oh my. Time to point, click, be the best captain ever, and... find a way back!

Point, Click and Movies Happen In the Strange World of Projector Face

While I have no idea just how the protagonist of Projector Face managed to end up with a film projector for a head / face, it does make for a unique protagonist, that's for sure. One who, far as I can tell, simply wants to be, but unfortunately trouble seems to be pretty darn good at finding him. Time to find out whether an uncanny movie playing ability is enough to get through whatever fate has in store for this poor misunderstood fella.

Let’s Get It Kickstarted (with a Lovecraftian twist): Stygian

Drawing heavily upon the works of H.P. Lovecraft, Stygian drops the player right into a world gone mad, promising "a bleak journey from a ruined Arkham to the very depths of the Abyss". Equally intriguing and terrifying, I'd say, and you probably won't live to tell the tale. Don't let that stop you though, for while the world is long gone, you do have reason to continue fighting, to figure out what caused it, why Arkham still stands, and above all else… who the Dismal Man is!
